Judge Selemeng Mokose
Selemeng Mokose received a BA (Law) degree from the National University of Lesotho in 1984, an LLB
degree from Wits University in 1988, a Certificate in Refugee Law from UCT in 2008 and a Post Graduate
Diploma in Property Development from the UCT Graduate School of Business in 2013. She was a practicing
attorney for 27 years specializing in property law and notarial practice. She was the first African female
conveyancer in the Republic of South Africa having been admitted as a conveyancer in 1991 from which
time she had been involved in legal education in conveyancing as a drafter, moderator and examiner of
exams. She also contributed extensively to the profession as chairperson of the Property Law Committee
of the Provincial Law Society (Law Society of the Northern Provinces) as well as the Law Society of South
Africa. Due to her passion for Refugee Law, Judge Mokose contributed her time pro bono to the Refugee
Law Clinic run from the Women’s Jail in Braamfontein whilst practicing as an attorney.
She was appointed a judge of the High Court of South Africa with effect from January 2019 and is
presently seated in the High Court in Pretoria.
